      Practical Information

      Our Curriculum:

      Daily Asana and Meditation Practice
Each morning session will include a comprehensive guided meditation and full asana class lead by the lead instructors Kadri Kurgun, Nancy Goodfellow and Team.
We will incorporate principles of alignment, heart themes, specific sequencing techniques, and anatomy teachings into the daily vinyasa practice.
Each day we will practice a specific meditation such as but not limited to:
      Metta
      Shamata/Dharana(Concentration)
      Mindfulness
      Sushumna Nadi
      Microcosmic Orbit
      Walking
      Contemplation
      Visualization
      Somatic
      Chakra
This may also include the use of mudras, mantras, and invocations based on the day's theme.
There will be some non-contact hours dedicated to daily self-practice where the student will be given specific meditation or asana exploration instructions to better prepare the student to cultivate ongoing daily practice.
The student will be required to journal on this experience and be prepared for an open group discussion on this subject.

      Meditation Postural Adjustment
Intuitive and empathetic observation for skillful posture setting. This will include lectures, Q&As and open discussion exercises where the student will learn how to be present before accessing and implementing proper adjustment.

      Asana Postural Adjustment
This section we will have lectures, demonstrations, and Q&As relating to asana adjusting techniques.

      Experiential Anatomy
Application of anatomy to daily practice. Each day during the morning practice session students will be instructed to identify the set of muscles, ligaments, and bones for a specific pose.
After practice, you will take notes to prepare for further discussion on the understanding of the biomechanics of the body.
Our anatomy instructor, covering the more in-depth anatomy and how it applies to the yoga practice.
There will be non-contact hours dedicated to self-study before the training as homework.
Pre-training homework will include, but not be limited to familiarizing with the required reading material “The Anatomy Coloring Book” by Wynn Kapit.

      Yoga Asana Breakdown
Alignment and modifications of the foundational yoga postures. Category breakdown of the asanas eg. forward folds vs. backbends.
Looking at the asanas in their respective categories and the effects that the asanas have on the body, both physically and energetically.
Posturing and counter-posturing as a basic principle in the vinyasa teaching method and how to choose specific asanas to maintain a sattvic balance.
We will literally be looking at the asanas from the foundation up, using the teachings of the Universal Principles of Alignment from the Anusara method.
There will be a study of the five elements: earth, water, fire, air, and space, and how they can be applied and used to enhance the yoga asana experience.
We will explain the 3 ‘focal points’ and where they are in the body in all the different categories of asanas.
Using the focal points as convergence centers for the emphasis on the primary flows of energy, eg. muscular and organic, and also the point in the body that is most weight-bearing during the asana.
We will further refine the asana breakdown using the 7 energy loops or circuits that enhance the physical opening and expansion of the physical body as well as help to avoid injuries during the practice by maintaining stability while increasing flexibility.
We will also look at the different levels of the most basic asanas, moving to the more expanded and advanced variations of the asanas.
There will be a discussion of ‘playing the edge’ of a posture and how students can understand, practice and teach this idea skillfully and safely as they deepen into the asanas.
Also, we will look at the practice of ‘attention’ vs. ‘focus’ and how they differ. This section will also include pranayama and the Nauli practice.
We will teach the basic pranayama practices of Nadi Shodhana, Kapalabhati, Surya pranayama, Chandra pranayama, Ujjayi, Viloma, and Sitali.
There will be an emphasis on the practice and technique of Ujjayi breathing as a fundamental aspect of the asana practice.
There will be an extensive breakdown of the nauli practices, including the purpose and benefits of how it directly relates to asana practice as a foundation physically and energetically.
After each daily asana practice, there will be a discussion with the students about how the class was created using a specific theme or intention, which category of asana (such as forward folding postures, hip openers or backbends ) were taught and why.
Also a separate discussion on the specific meditation practice of the day - the benefits, challenges and the proper application for each meditation and how it may relate to the asana practice and living well.
There will be Q&A sessions on the daily practice focusing on the specific sequencing techniques and prop usage.

Hands-on Adjusting, Assisting and Partner Yoga
This session will be dedicated for the students to finding comfort in connecting and supporting other people in a clear and compassionate way.
We will concentrate on inversion practice for hands-on adjusting as the foundation to all postural hands-on adjusting, from meditation posture to handstands to savasana, we will draw wisdom from modalities/exercises.
      These modalities will include:
      Partner stretching
      Partner counterbalancing
      Compassionate communication games
      AcroYoga and group exercises
These all relate to establishing a strong foundation for the student to understand and work from to find sensitivity, comfort, and confidence as it relates to hands-on assisting.

      Teaching Methodology
Developing one’s own authentic voice and teaching style. In this segment, we will have lectures, Q&As, open discussion and simple classroom exercises on what it means to embody individual voice and style as a yoga teacher, a leader or empowered individual.

      Testimonials

      Testimonials:

The teachers! They have the biggest hearts and I was continuously so impressed with their knowledge and ability to make the learning process so fun and creative. I loved dancing and laughing with them and the other students. We all experienced this training in different ways but it was truly magical and held in Pranamar which was a tropical jungle location, making studying by the beach or by the pool much smoother than imagining I’d taken a course in the city.

My body was completely transformed in the space of 3 weeks, thanks to the discipline of daily routine and eating such nourishing meals. Show Less

I feel like I am able to hold space and have a new sense of confidence in front of others. The teachers have uncovered my voice and I’m no longer mouthing morning chants at my local studio, but embracing my singing voice!
Kadri has such a magnetic aura. A truly inspiring teacher, he was able to hold space for everyone and make us feel so safe and loved. He made me feel empowered and I’m thankful for the real life stories he shared with us all.

Nancy… a goddess yogini, a teacher who I aspire to be. Such a loving soul and a big heart, makes everyone feel special. I would look forward to her classes every morning because the sequencing would be different and felt challenging but I love getting a sweat on and strengthening my body during practice.

Laurie… The dancing queen! Such an infectious smile and always felt fully supported by her presence.

      – Hana Tagashira

Aside from the breathtaking scenery and environment around us, the teachers' so openly sharing their knowledge, personal experiences, and vulnerabilities really made this a standout program and experience. They were incredibly impactful and inspiring. Their openness and availability for each and every student gave us all a sense of being heard, seen, and honored. The tone they set made this program into what it was.

I began really loving myself for maybe the first time ever in my life.

Yoga - Invigorating, methodical, detailed, well-paced, inspiring. We never had two yoga class that looked or felt even remotely the same. Best yoga classes I have ever taken.
Meditation - Calm, concise, consistent, enlightening, accessible. Best meditation practice I have been led through. Was so clear and made so accessible that allowed students to really understand the guided meditations and adopt them independently from a leader.

Oh one other thing, I liked how teachers cussed (ha!) and were so open with us about their process still being in development. Basically, what I'm getting at is that they acted in a REAL way with us, as equals, rather than using their knowledge of the yoga/meditation/spirituality/philosophy/etc as grounds to act above us or better than us. I can't stress enough how much this let us "in" as students in a way that empowered us to think of ourselves as teachers as well.

One. Hundred. Percent. Greater understanding (me) = full on love for myself. YOU GUYS GOT ME HERE! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. Can never say it enough, but I am so eternally grateful. Thank you Luminous Heart Team and so much love!!!

      - Christian Paxton

I think I don't have a highlight. I honestly loved the whole emotional and physical roller coaster during the YTT. It felt like living in a magical space where I could simply just be myself. Okay probably the manifestation workshop was one of my highlights because it really helps me to be super clear about what I want, to be positive and to be more patient and I could not believe it but it absolutely works!!!

My first handstand thank you Kadri!!!! I try not to get super addicted to it but it is just so much fun and it really helps me to switch off my thoughts and to be present. I also feel that I am now more focused on what I want to do and not to do.

And of course I'm super happy that I improved my asanas and my pranayama techniques! Can't wait to start the 300hr YTT with you guys!

      – Hanna Klug
